Continued Exposure
Continued Exposure
Because the true cause—headset-mediated sensory system stress—is not identified, workers continue using the equipment that’s injuring them. Employers don’t implement exposure limits, workers don’t know to request accommodations, and medical providers don’t document occupational causation (Occupational Medicine Journal, 2023). This continued exposure transforms what could have been a reversible early-stage injury into permanent vestibular dysfunction and chronic disability (Vestibular Disorders Association, 2024). The average worker experiences 3-5 years of uninterrupted headset exposure after symptom onset before any intervention occurs (Workers’ Compensation Research Institute, 2023).
